NEXIUM can heal potential damage that acid reflux disease may cause
Over time, acid reflux can damage your esophagus, and this can lead to a potentially serious condition called erosive esophagitis. NEXIUM can heal this damage within 4 to 8 weeks. Your results with NEXIUM may vary.
The more you understand about how NEXIUM can both relieve heartburn symptoms and heal possible damage, the more you’ll want to have a conversation with your doctor.
How NEXIUM Relieves Heartburn Pain
When acid reflux occurs, stomach acid backs up into your esophagus. The acid is harsh, your esophagus lining is delicate—and the result can be heartburn pain.
NEXIUM turns off many of the “acid pumps” in the stomach’s acid-producing cells. This reduces the amount of acid in your stomach. There’s still enough acid to help digest your food. But there’s less that could back up into your esophagus and cause heartburn pain—and possibly tissue damage, too. This damage is called erosive esophagitis, and only a doctor can determine if you have this condition.
By turning off some acid pumps, NEXIUM can both relieve heartburn pain and heal possible acid-related damage to the lining of the esophagus. For many people, NEXIUM heals this damage within 4 to 8 weeks. Your results with NEXIUM may vary.
Only a doctor can say if NEXIUM may be right for you. For the sake of getting relief for the heartburn symptoms—and healing the possible damage that you may have— start the conversation. Ask your doctor if NEXIUM may be right for you.

NEXIUM helps relieve heartburn. In fact, for many people, one NEXIUM pill a day can provide 24-hour relief from frequent heartburn. Your results with NEXIUM may vary.
NEXIUM also heals damage. NEXIUM has been proven to heal damaging erosions to the esophagus that have been caused over time by acid reflux disease. In 8-week clinical tests, nearly 9 out of 10 patients with acid reflux-related erosions in their esophagus were successfully healed with NEXIUM. Healing was even experienced by people with severe levels of erosive esophagitis. Most erosions heal within 4 to 8 weeks. Your results with NEXIUM may vary.
NEXIUM is a PPI. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are the most effective treatments for acid reflux disease. PPIs work by turning off many of the “acid pumps” in the stomach’s acid-producing cells. This reduces the amount of acid in the stomach.
Millions of patients have been prescribed NEXIUM. Since the FDA first approved it in 2001, health care professionals have prescribed NEXIUM more than 196 million times.*
